Liverpool Football Club, Everton Football Club, Liverpool City Council and Merseyside Police would like to send a message of thanks to all the supporters who attended the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Saturday September 27, 2014.

Both clubs, the city council and Merseyside Police want to commend the co-operation and support they received from the fans and the supporters' groups.

Following the congestion which occurred outside the stadium on Anfield Road at the previous Merseyside derby in January 2014, Liverpool City Council's Safety Advisory Group made a number of recommendations in consultation with both clubs, Merseyside Police and key supporters' groups.

These included opening turnstiles earlier, encouraging fans to be inside the stadium earlier, a new queue-management system to create a steady flow of fans entering Anfield and support from Everton stewards who were present at the away turnstiles.

The additional measures that were put in place for the game and the collaborative approach taken proved to be effective, which was echoed by positive feedback received from fans.

Liverpool FC, Everton FC, Liverpool City Council and Merseyside Police will continue to work together to ensure the safety of fans attending future Merseyside derbies.
