In the latest instalment of her regular column for the official website, Liverpool Ladies captain Gemma Bonner talks about England teammate Toni Duggan when the Reds take on Manchester City on Sunday.

We are in a good place at the moment having won our last four games, scoring 14 goals in the process. I think momentum is massive in women's football. We don't play that many games in the league so I think once you get on a good run then it's hard to stop, but once you start to lose a couple of games it can put you out of touch with the top. We are desperate to retain our title and we know we have to keep it going. We dropped points to Arsenal and we were disappointed with that, but we've just had a massive week where we've picked up six points in the league against Everton and Bristol so we've got to push on and close the gap on Super League leaders Birmingham.

The win at Bristol last weekend was our best performance of the season, I think the break after the Arsenal game helped us by getting a few players back to full fitness, and I think just the general confidence throughout the squad is good. We are now scoring goals and if we concentrate on ourselves and pick up the points then we'll give ourselves a good chance at the end of the season.

We now face another tough test away at Manchester City on Sunday. We beat them 1-0 in our first league game of the season but they beat us at their place in the Continental Cup. They've had a good run of form recently and they only lost out to a last minute goal against Chelsea so we're expecting a tough game. It took City a while to gel together but that was the same with us last season. But now they've got a few wins under their belt and their consistency is coming together, so for them they'll be full of confidence, they're still signing new players so they'll be wanting to put another marker out there in the league.

I will be facing my England colleague Toni Duggan whose had a good season with club and country and it'll be a good test for myself and the team as a whole facing such a top quality side with several international players. There's a close rivalry between us so it should be a very competitive game one which the fans should enjoy.

We will go into the game full of confidence as we are strong in all areas of the pitch. I must say I am enjoying playing alongside Nina Pedersen who has done really well since arriving from the University of California. She's great to play alongside and our defensive record has been good this season. She's so versatile in that she can play in midfield as well. I have to pay tribute to our manager Matt Beard who has made another great signing and hopefully she can continue that great form she's been in.

Nici Rolser and Lucy Staniforth continue to step up their rehab from knee cruciate injury and have just completed a week of intense training at St George's Park. It's also great to have Katrin back on the pitch following her recent injury marking her return with a goal.

I'd like to wish Katie Zelem, Martha Harris and Ellie Stewart good luck in the U20's World Cup in Canada and welcome back Claudia Walker from the U19's European finals where she captained the England side and scored their only goal of the campaign.

After the game this weekend we have an international break for a friendly against Sweden in Hartlepool on Sunday, August 3. I'd like to congratulate Fara Williams on her call-up where she is in line to become the most capped England player of all time, an achievement she should be very proud of.
