Matt Beard is hoping Liverpool Ladies can kick-start their title challenge with a win over Everton on Wednesday night.

Kick-off at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes is at 6.30pm BST and admission is just £5 for adults and £2.50 for children/concessions.

The Reds are currently fifth in the Women's Super League - five points behind leaders Birmingham.

Beard insists his team can't afford to drop too many more points if they are to push for a second successive championship, but knows success is never easy in a derby - especially against an Everton side who are unbeaten against Liverpool in two previous meetings this campaign.

"It's going to be a tough game because everybody knows that form goes out of the window in Merseyside derbies regardless of what happens," said Beard.

"I experienced that in my first one. The fortune went our way last year but so far this season Everton have had the upper hand on us.

"The players have to make sure they turn up. They didn't turn up for the FA Cup game - they thought they were going to win it.

"When we played Everton in the FA Cup and the Continental Cup, we had seven or eight players out injured. It does have a knock-on affect on the team.

"Everton have got a great blend of youth and experience. They've got some very good young players.

"We know what they're about. They got to the cup final and it's going to be a tough night for us but we can't afford to drop any more points if we want to win the league."
