Jose Enrique believes Brendan Rodgers has significantly strengthened his squad already this summer by completing the signings of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can.

The Northern Irishman has been decisively active in the transfer market during June and July, securing the services of the former Southampton duo and a versatile German talent.

Having watched Lambert and Lallana thrive in the Barclays Premier League and trained with Can during the fledgling stages of pre-season, Enrique delivered his thumbs-up.

"Lambert and Lallana had been doing really well for Southampton," the Spanish full-back told Liverpoolfc.com at Melwood. "Emre Can, as well, they say is really good.

"Hopefully with a few more additions, we can compete for good things. We have already improved the squad because we have signed players after we finished second last year.

"The club are bringing good names here as well. Hopefully there'll be more names, but we are really happy with the squad. I'm really looking forward to the season.

"This year we'll play in the Champions League, which I've never played in yet in my career. I'm so much looking forward to that. But we have to do really well again in the league; we have so many competitions this year."
