Adam Lallana can't wait to play in front of the Kop in a red shirt and witness the famous passionate support, according to his friend and former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor.

The England international witnessed at first hand the special adulation shown by the Anfield faithful when he and his Southampton teammates were applauded off the field after the Saints sealed a shock 1-0 win last season.

Now after clinching his move to Anfield, Mellor insists the Kop will love their new No.20.

"He's absolutely buzzing and can't wait to play for Liverpool," Mellor told Liverpoolfc.com.

"I've spoken with Adam and congratulated him on his move to Anfield. He is a friend of mine, I played against him a few times during my career and I also see him outside of football and he's a great lad.

"He's a fantastic player. Obviously he's cost a lot of money but I think he can justify that price tag with the season he has just had and what a player he has been for Southampton.

"Many times in the past he could have left Southampton, but he's been so loyal to them and it's come to the point where an offer came in from a club in the Champions League and with it being Liverpool he was never going to turn that down.

"He is really excited by that and he can't wait to play in front of the Kop."

Mellor insists Lallana will provide an already formidable looking attack with more quality and plenty of assists.

He added: "I think we've signed a fantastic player who can play in a variety of different positions. His movement is excellent, he has great ability on the ball and can make things happen. He is creative and I'm excited at the prospect of seeing him in a Liverpool shirt.

"Adam will give Liverpool a lot of excitement and a lot of quality. I think he will settle in quickly and he is a player that will get fans off their seats.

"He's capable of making things happen and it's great we have got an English lad who can do this. I know the Liverpool supporters will take to him very quickly as he's an honest and passionate lad with a lot of quality.

"It's a big deal this move for Adam. He has a young family and they are going to move up from Southampton and Liverpool will certainly help him settle in well. He also knows some of the players well and that will help him."

Lallana will experience the incredible support Liverpool has all over the world for the first time during pre-season.

He added: "He is a fan of the way Brendan Rodgers plays his football and also has a lot of respect for the fans who played a huge part last season. All over the world, all over the country, everyone saw what Liverpool fans were creating with their incredible support for the team.

"The buzz of playing at Anfield was incredible and with us coming so close to winning the title last season players all over the world saw the special atmosphere created by the fans.

"Okay the title wasn't to be in the end but it showed if people didn't know already just what a special club this is. People want to play for Liverpool Football Club."

As fate would already have it Lallana's first game in the Barclays Premier League for Liverpool will be against his old club, making it an instant reunion for him and fellow signing Rickie Lambert.

He said: "It's quite unique we play Southampton in the first game and you couldn't have written that script could you.

"Southampton were absolutely superb in the game they won at Anfield last season and quite rightly they were applauded off the pitch.

"I think it's a good thing that Lallana and Lambert are well aware of the style Liverpool play and they will adapt very quickly."
