Evans: Hard work starts again in July
It was a policy that served Liverpool so well during his time as a member of the legendary boot room, and Roy Evans believes the modern-day side will be well aware the hard work starts once again this summer.
Thanks to an outstanding 2013-14 campaign, the Reds mounted an exhilarating title challenge - and though they were ultimately pipped to the crown by two points to Manchester City, there was much to be proud of.
Former Anfield coach and manager, Evans, feels Brendan Rodgers will take all the positives from last term into pre-season training, but with a message that it's all about what his side do this time around.
He told the July edition of the official Liverpool FC monthly magazine: "You have to take all the positives from last season because there are many: the results, the style of football, the number of goals.
"Our original target was qualifying for the Champions League and we did that with games to spare before going very, very close to winning the league. The margin was fine. You have to remind the players of that.
"But you also have to remind them that the reality is: it counts for nothing now. The hard work starts again.
"Just because you were a good team last year, it does not mean you're a good team this year. You have to show the same effort and the same desire. It's not a time to say: we're back in the Champions League - we're good.
"Even when you win something - even the league - that has to be the message if you want sustained success. It counts for everyone at the club: the players, the staff and the fans.
"The focus has to be on the job in hand, looking forward and not backwards."
