Jamie Carragher anticipates a 'full throttle' performance when Luis Suarez meets familiar Liverpool faces as Uruguay meet England at the World Cup on Thursday night.

After sitting out his country's opening encounter in Brazil, the 27-year-old is expected to do battle with the six Anfield representatives in the Three Lions squad.

There is work to do for Suarez in Sao Paulo too; La Celeste were stunned by a 3-1 defeat against Costa Rica at the weekend and must take points from their second Group D tie.

Carragher, who watched the Reds' No.7 at close quarters for two-and-a-half seasons as a teammate, believes the prolific forward is capable of making an immediate impact.

"Luis Suarez is different from most players in world football," the former centre-back commented on talkSPORT.

"He's a phenomenon; the mentality of him...he's a winner. I know what type of character he is - he will go at it full throttle, running around harrying people and trying things. That's what makes him such a great player."
