Lionel Messi, Javier Mascherano and co. will be aiming to emulate the achievements of Mario Kempes' Argentina of 1978, who went all the way and lifted the World Cup for the first time.

It was a competition full of colour and full of stars, such Zico, Dino Zoff, Johan Neeskens and Daniel Passarella, with the iconic Adidas Tango ball being used for the first time in Argentina.

Two of the Reds' all-time greats graced the stage in South America as well, with Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness lining up for Ally McLeod's Scotland team.

Both would return home and resume their club duties in helping Liverpool continue their domestic dominance, going all the way to an 11th league championship title the following season.

Today's episode of 'World Cup Reds' looks at the impact both players had at the competition and their role in one of Scotland's most iconic matches.
