Three Liverpool defenders represented their countries in international friendlies overnight – Sebastian Coates, Ryan McLaughlin and Kolo Toure.

The former was involved for the closing 10 minutes of Uruguay's World Cup warm-up against Slovenia. They were victorious, 2-0.

McLaughlin continued his fledgling international career, meanwhile, by clocking up 71 minutes for Northern Ireland as they faced Chile away from home.

The travellers lost 2-0, although both goals were scored after the Reds full-back had been withdrawn from the action midway through the second half.

Toure completed the entire encounter in Texas, where Ivory Coast recorded a 2-1 win over El Salvador in preparation for their World Cup quest this month.
