Steven Gerrard's influence at Liverpool Football Club extends way beyond his on-pitch exploits at the heart of the Reds' midfield, according to Luis Suarez.

Gerrard is involved in every aspect of the club, leading by example and guiding those around him - and Suarez believes he might just be the greatest player the club has ever produced.

The 33-year-old was at the peak of his inspirational powers throughout 2013-14, spurring the Reds to a second placed finish in the Barclays Premier League.

His actions galvanised a stunning 11-game run which spanned from early February to mid-April as Gerrard held his nerve time and again to convert crucial chances at grounds across the country.

The Liverpool and England skipper has constantly eulogised about the talents of his teammate Suarez down the years - and today, Suarez returned the compliment in style.

"Everybody knows Stevie is important in my career," the Reds' No.7 told Sky Sports News.

"He's the best player in Liverpool history for me and I can say he's the best player I play with as well. He's the captain because he's helped the team, he helps the players, the staff, helps everything."
