Academy defender Brad Smith has been named in the England U21s squad for a series of crucial qualifying and tournament fixtures later this month.

With Jon Flanagan and Raheem Sterling involved with the senior group, the Australian-born full-back is the single Reds representative in Gareth Southgate's selection.

The Three Lions face Wales in a European U21 Championship qualifier on Monday, May 19, before departing for France to participate in the Toulon Tournament.

There, the young charges will take on Qatar, Brazil, South Korea and Colombia across nine days.

Smith, who celebrated his 20th birthday last month, made his first-team debut for Liverpool when he was introduced as a substitute against Chelsea on December 29, 2013.
