St Paul’s Catholic Jnr School Scoop Liverpool Cup
Eight schools including around 100 boys and girls took part in the final stage of the Liverpool Cup at Anfield last night [Monday 12th May 2014] in the tournament’s 36th year.
St Paul's Catholic Junior School were crowned champions of the Liverpool Cup after a thrilling 5-1 victory against Valewood, while Somerville lifted the Jack Cross Cup after winning 6-1 against Florence Melly.
St John's, Aughton Town Green, Emmaus and Oughtrington Community Primary School also played some great football during the semi-finals.
Liverpool legends Ronnie Moran, Howard Gayle, Alan Kennedy were joined by Liverpool Ladies players, Natasha Dowie, Becky Easton, Libby Stout and Martha Harris in presenting medals and goodie bags to the children, as well as posing for photos with all of the participating teams and Club mascot, Mighty Red.
Liverpool Cup secretary, Steve Sass, said: "Tonight has been a fantastic evening and all the kids involved have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing at Anfield.
"This tournament has such a rich history in the City and many schools have been a part of it since 1978. Thousands of local school children continue to participate in the competition every year raising the standard. I am very much looking forward to its continued success and next year's tournament."
All proceeds raised from the Liverpool Cup are being re-distributed back to schools throughout Merseyside to provide more sporting opportunities for local children.
