Daniel Sturridge vowed Liverpool will come back stronger next season in order to reward the supporters who have backed them so vociferously throughout the current campaign.

Sunday saw the conclusion of a remarkable year for Brendan Rodgers' men, who have transformed themselves from a side that finished seventh into genuine title contenders.

It was a season of breath-taking highs, when Kopites dared to dream - and one which ultimately brought success in the form of progress, with the return of Champions League football guaranteed for the first time in five years.

At the very heart of a campaign which restored fans' pride and belief was Sturridge - cool, calm and calculating, ruthless in front of goal and unyielding in his pursuit of perfection.

He cut a determined figure following Liverpool's final day victory over Newcastle United on Sunday as the forward reflected on a season which saw him strike 24 times in 33 appearances.

Sturridge insisted the support from the stands spurred him on throughout 2013-14 - and he's determined to go one better in the name of the fans next season.

"I'm thankful for all the hard work and support you have given us," he told Liverpoolfc.com. "You've travelled with us all around England, supported us from the first minute to the very last minute.

"I apologise for not winning the Premier League for you guys. I'll do everything in my power, just like my teammates will, to ensure that we do that for you next season.

"We set the target of reaching the Champions League, but everybody is hungry for success. I think we'll look forward to next season now and we'll hope that we can bring some success to the team.

"We'll take the positives out of this season and we'll learn from the negatives, that's what's important. I've learned a lot this season. I'm thankful to God for everything and I'll look forward to next season."
