The moment that Raheem Sterling shimmied around a defender and goalkeeper before firing into an open net against Manchester City has been recognised with the April Goal of the Month award, in association with EA SPORTS.

Six minutes had been played in the top-of the-table clash at Anfield when the 19-year-old collected an incisive through ball by Luis Suarez and proceeded to convert in sublime style at the Kop end.

In what developed into the closest online fan poll of the Reds' season, that strike narrowly beat the winner from Philippe Coutinho in the same encounter, handing the Liverpool No.31 an accompaniment to his Standard Chartered Player of the Month accolade.

Of more than 3,000 votes cast by supporters, Sterling's effort took 33 per cent in total, thereby edging out his Brazilian colleague, who reaped 32 per cent for his low, searing finish into the far corner.

The long-range opener unleashed by Sterling at Norwich City took third spot, while Martin Skrtel's glancing header past Manchester City and Suarez's 30th goal of the campaign at Carrow Road completed the top five.
