Liverpool Football Club would like to send a message of thanks to all those who donated a scarf for use at the Hillsborough Memorial Service on Tuesday.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the tragedy, at which 96 men, women and children lost their lives, the club put out an appeal for football fans around the world to send in their scarves.

The plan was to use the items donated in order to form a giant '96' on the Anfield turf - and the response from around the globe was emphatic.

Down to thousands of you sending in your prized possessions, we were able to form a fitting tribute to the 96, which underlined the sense of global unity surrounding this year's service.

And for that we'd like to say 'thanks'.

The club's official charity, the Liverpool FC Foundation, will now donate all scarves to local good causes, including homeless charities, along with a signed item of LFC memorabilia.
