Jordan Henderson believes Liverpool's hard-fought 2-1 victory over West Ham United on Sunday was testament to the team spirit within the camp.

Steven Gerrard struck two penalties - with a Guy Demel effort sandwiched in between for the hosts - to clinch a crucial three points and send the Reds back to the top of the Barclays Premier League table.

Brendan Rodgers' men were required to show great resolve to grind out the win, leaving Henderson and co extremely satisfied with their efforts.

The midfielder told Liverpoolfc.com: "It was a team performance. We've been working really hard as a team all season, and this was no different. We're working really, really well.

"For the first goal, Luis [Suarez] does brilliantly - it was a great ball from Stevie over the top, then Luis does his stuff and manages to draw the penalty with a handball.

"Then the second, Lucas puts a great ball in for Flanno, who gets there just before the 'keeper.

"It was a brilliant three points for us."

With the scoreline level at 1-1, Rodgers opted to make a change during the half-time interval, introducing Lucas Leiva in place of Philippe Coutinho to alter Liverpool's formation.

Henderson added: "Overall we've got to be delighted with our performance and the three points. I felt as though we came out in the second half and really controlled the game with the ball, penetrated in behind a few times and could have had a few more goals.

"At the other end, I think we dealt with the set-plays and aerial threat really well throughout the game, so we're delighted."

Next up for Liverpool is a mouth-watering Anfield clash with Manchester City on Sunday.

Henderson, however, insists the Reds will approach the contest just as they have the previous 33 games so far this term.

He concluded: "We're really high on confidence, so we've just got to keep working in training, take each game as it comes, keep doing what we've been doing and then go out there and put on good performances."
