The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) today issued its March update on the continuing investigations into the Hillsborough disaster and its aftermath.

The body's final update before the new inquests into the deaths of the 96 provides new details on the identification of suspects, the witness appeal, amendment to statements and allegations of surveillance.

IPCC deputy chair, Rachel Cerfontyne, said: "My thoughts are with the families as I appreciate this will be a very difficult time for them as they prepare to sit through months of witness evidence.

"Our team remains committed to investigating all matters relating to Hillsborough as thoroughly and robustly as possible."
