Six years ago today, on a glorious European night in Italy, Liverpool laid the ghost of 1965 to rest when they knocked Inter Milan out of the Champions League at the San Siro.

After Bill Shankly's Liverpool lost to Inter on a highly controversial night in 1965, revenge was in the air for Steven Gerrard and co.

The Reds went into the match protecting a 2-0 lead from the first leg - and despite having to endure long periods of Inter pressure, they did not succumb to the same fate that accounted for Shankly's men all those years ago.

A solitary strike from the lethal predator Fernando Torres was enough to see the Reds progress to the quarter-finals after a 3-0 aggregate victory. Scroll down to relive the night.
