Simon Mignolet has warned Liverpool must not rest on their laurels after a stunning 5-0 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane at the weekend.

The Belgian did not have to make a single save as he kept his second clean sheet in 13 games thanks to a dominant team display from Brendan Rodgers' side.

The victory was Liverpool's third on the bounce in the Barclays Premier League - and it propelled them to within two points of table-toppers Arsenal.

With Cardiff City up next at Anfield, Mignolet insists there can be no room for complacency - and called upon his teammates to extend their winning run against the Bluebirds.

"It was a great result for us at Tottenham," Mignolet told the Liverpool Echo. "We were positive, tried to win the game and played very well.

"We were very pleased not only with the three points but also the clean sheet, which was very important for us.

"We showed what we can achieve when we play the football we want to play and all of us do our jobs. We are happy and enjoyed the moment but Tottenham is in the past and now we have to look forward.

"We have to make sure we build on that performance and do the same things against Cardiff.

"It will be another difficult game and we need to be focused on the next game. We are in a good position but we need to prepare correctly and keep this run going."

After the clash against Cardiff, trips to Manchester City and Chelsea loom large for the Reds, who will be without Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge.

However, Mignolet believes the 5-0 win at Tottenham proved Liverpool have enough quality within their ranks to perform in the absence of the England duo.

"Spurs was a real team performance," Mignolet said. "Beforehand everyone was going on about how we had a couple of guys missing.

"We had some important individuals out injured who have great qualities, but the group is the most important thing.

"There always has to be someone ready to step up and do the job if someone can't play and we have the players to do that.

"We dealt with having a couple of injuries and we have to do the same this weekend. Everyone was so pleased for Jon Flanagan. He works so hard every day and deserved that goal.

"It wasn't just against Spurs he played well. He's played like this for a number of weeks against tough opposition."

If Rodgers' side can add to their record of 20 goals in the last five games in front of the Kop with a win over Cardiff, they will return to the top of the table for the first time since early September.

And should Arsenal fail to win against Chelsea on the Monday, the Reds will remain at the league's summit over Christmas.

However, Mignolet insisted: "Positions don't matter at the moment as everything will be decided much later in the season. There are still so many games to be played. We will know more after the Christmas period.

"There is a huge opportunity ahead of us and we must make sure we do the right things week in, week out.

"After Cardiff there are two really big games but we can't look too far ahead. It doesn't really matter who we are playing as we always look at ourselves and try to focus on the things we need to do rather than worry about how the opposition play."
