One of the Liverpool FC Foundation's Premier League 4 Sport basketball sessions received a visit from England basketball captain and massive Reds fan, Drew Sullivan, at Archbishop Beck Tennis Centre yesterday.

Premier League 4 Sport (PL4S) is an innovative project funded by a joint partnership between the Barclays Premier League and Sport England, which encourages young people to participate in a range of sports outside school hours.

PL4S' other main objectives are to increase the diversity of sport and improve the infrastructure and supporting links between schools and clubs to widen the reach of sport.

The Liverpool FC Foundation, the club's official charity, currently offers seven sports as part of its PL4S programme, including basketball, badminton, boxing, netball, table tennis, volleyball and athletics.

Each week it delivers 20 free sessions across Liverpool and Wirral in local sports and community centres, as part of a wide range of programmes that the Foundation delivers across Merseyside and beyond.

Drew commented: "I really enjoyed taking part in the sessions and sharing my knowledge and expertise. It's great to see so many youngsters passionate about the game and keeping fit and active by playing it after school with other like-minded students."

Mark Haig, the Liverpool FC Foundation's operations manager, added: "We have seen our PL4S programme grow from strength to strength over the past three years and it continues to add a wealth of sports to our range of programmes, which more than 500 children and adults benefit from each month."
