Daniel Sturridge believes he and his Liverpool and England teammates need look no further for the ideal role model than Steven Gerrard.

The Reds striker feels both established and up-and-coming stars alike can take inspiration from the 33-year-old's example, both on and off the pitch.

Sturridge said: "He is a legend.

"He is a great man on and off the pitch too. He leads by example and he is someone I look up to. I am happy for him and his family.

"He deserves everything he gets because he works hard and he is someone everybody looks up to.

"He is a leader and the captain of the boys. He is an example for the youth coming up now and he is somebody I look up to still."
