Victor Moses believes it is poetic that he is working under Brendan Rodgers, after nearly signing for him six years ago.

The Nigerian winger is on a season-long loan with Liverpool from Chelsea, but has been on the radar of the Reds manager since he was 16. Moses was the standout player at Crystal Palace's academy, and one of the gems at junior level for England at the time, while Rodgers was head youth team coach at Stamford Bridge.

The Northern Irishman has kept tabs on the 22-year-old's progress ever since, and upon the attacker's arrival at Anfield, he remarked: "I know what I'm getting. He's got the profile that suits our game in terms of his technique, his quality and he's a humble guy."

Moses vividly remembers his early encounters with Rodgers, and is happy to finally work with him.

"I spoke to him when I was 16 and he wanted me to come to Chelsea, so I trained with the club for a bit and he was impressed," the African Nations Cup winner told KICK OFF Magazine.

"I went back home after the training period, had a little think about it and thought I'd get a bigger chance to play and develop at Palace. So I rang him up and said I was sorry, but that I decided not to join them, and that I wanted to build my career from Palace," he added.

"It's great actually that I eventually move to Liverpool and he's the manager here and I get the chance to work under him."

Moses has a deep appreciation for Rodgers' managerial style, which he feels is quite balanced. "He's just brilliant and I'm glad he's been doing so well, because he's the kind of manager I enjoy playing for," said the former Wigan man.

"He's very encouraging, but also very helpful when it comes to improving your game, so it's nice to get this opportunity after all these years."

Moses is determined to help Liverpool's fine start to the season continue, and feels blessed to work alongside such a talented squad.

"I'm just here to do my best for Liverpool, there's no question about that," he concluded.

"It's a massive club with great history and so I just want to add to that. We'd like to push for trophies this season, so I'm just going to help the team with that aim.

"We've got a really great squad here, with quality players and I'm honoured to be part of it."
