Liverpool's inspired 4-1 thrashing of West Brom on Saturday was the perfect way to crown a whirlwind two weeks for midfielder Lucas Leiva.

It all started on October 12, when he played his first minutes for Brazil since picking up a knee injury at Stamford Bridge in November 2011.

Exactly one week later, the midfielder became a father for the second time following the birth of his daughter.

Then, on Friday, it was announced that the 26-year-old will retain his position in Luiz Felipe Scolari's squad for the national team.

Yesterday he was in action as Luis Suarez and co put the Baggies to the sword at Anfield - and afterwards he reflected on a special fortnight.

"I've been reading a lot of about me and when I will be back at my best, but I think my season has been good so far, to be honest," Lucas told Liverpoolfc.com.

"There's been a change in system and I've changed my role a bit. People sometimes don't see it but I know I'm an important player for the team.

"I'm old enough to know that the position I play is more important for the team than for people outside who see the game. I'm just happy. It's been probably one of the best two weeks of my life.

"I played for Brazil after two years and became a dad again and now I've won for Liverpool and received another call for Brazil.

"So I hope this will continue to the end of the season and I can achieve great things with Liverpool and finish it by going to the World Cup."

Lucas put in another fine defensive display as Suarez orchestrated the Liverpool attack against the Baggies.

The Uruguayan's first involved a trademark nutmeg and an instinctive finish, his second was one of the finest headed goals Anfield has ever witnessed and his third was a smart strike in front of the Kop.

However, when Daniel Sturridge weighed in with a sumptuous chip from 25 yards in the 77th minute, he grabbed the goal of the game according to Lucas.

"I think Daniel scored the best goal to be honest," laughed the Brazilian. "Luis's header was a great header and the first goal was typical Luis - the meg and the good finish. But I think overall it was four fantastic goals - three from him and one from Daniel.

"It's just great to see them linking well and we hope this will continue during the season.

"Luis doesn't surprise me. People who don't see him every day are always surprised because they are only able to watch him at the weekend. But we can see him every day in training and we just know how far he can go.

"He's already one of the best players in the world and hopefully he will be the best in the world soon. He has shown his commitment in every game and his desire to win.

"The way he plays is he tries to help the team - it's not all about himself."
