Luis Suarez and Uruguay will face a play-off to reach the 2014 World Cup despite the Liverpool No.7 providing a goal and an assist in a 3-2 victory over Argentina on Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old struck La Celeste's second goal from the penalty spot after winning the spot-kick himself, before laying on the winner with a well-timed pass to Edinson Cavani.

Former Liverpool midfielder Maxi Rodriguez notched both goals for the visitors in Montevideo as the South American qualifiers concluded in style.

Despite the impressive win, however, Uruguay could only secure fifth place in the CONMEBOL standings, finishing behind Ecuador in the final automatic qualification position on goal difference.

Suarez's team instead progress to an intercontinental play-off against Asian hopefuls Jordan; the tie will be played over two legs, home and away, on November 13/14 and November 20.
