Brendan Rodgers today backed the Independent Police Complaints Commission's call for witnesses who were at Hillsborough and gave their accounts to police to come forward as part of its investigation into the aftermath of the disaster.

Speaking from a press conference at Melwood, Rodgers said: "I know that at the time a lot of statements were taken and I would ask those supporters that had witness statements taken to get in touch with the IPCC.

"On our website there is an opportunity to be directed in the right route.

"It's very important for the families of all the victims of Hillsborough and for the fight for justice, that we can get all those statements.

"It's something that will continue their fight for justice."

If you gave an account to West Midlands Police, the IPCC would like to hear from you. A dedicated Hillsborough Witness Appeal online form can be found at www.ipcc.gov.uk/hillsborough-witness-appeal.

If you were at Hillsborough, but did not give an account previously and have information that you believe may assist the ongoing investigations, please use the space in the witness appeal form by following the link above.

The IPCC is examining police actions following the stadium disaster, including how West Midlands Police, the force appointed to accumulate evidence for Lord Justice Taylor's inquiry and the subsequent inquests, conducted its inquiries.

Thousands of members of the public gave witness accounts to West Midlands Police, then in writing, via telephone or in face-to-face interviews. The IPCC wishes to speak with these people to understand more about their experiences and the process they went through.
