Steven Gerrard believes Raheem Sterling fully deserves his call up to the England squad for next month's crucial World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.

The 18-year-old is one of four Liverpool players to have been selected by Roy Hodgson - and his captain is confident he'll demonstrate why he's so highly regarded over the course of 2013-14.

"Raheem has looked really sharp and lively right the way through pre-season," Gerrard told the Liverpool Echo.

"He hasn't started a Premier League game yet, but there are plenty of games throughout the season where he can prove he is international class.

"But he is still very young - he's a baby in terms of his football development and has a lot to learn. But the experience of being in and around the full England squad will help him."

England will host Moldova at Wembley on Friday, September 6 before travelling to Kiev to face Ukraine four days later.
