A group of local students had a memorable evening at Anfield on Wednesday night when they met Liverpool legend John Aldridge at the EFL Cup semi-final against Southampton.

The Our Lady Immaculate Primary School pupils, who attended the game thanks to the club’s ‘Red Neighbours’ programme, enjoyed the action from an executive box in the new Main Stand.

Harriet Guy, 10, said: “It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“I’ve been to a Liverpool game before, but never like this. The box was so nice and we were treated so well – the food was delicious and the view from our seats was amazing.

“Meeting an ex-player was really special, too. The whole night was just brilliant.”

The ‘Red Neighbours’ programme supports local residents and schools in the Anfield community, focusing on four key areas of need: food poverty and education; support for the elderly community; encouraging a physically active community; and creating memorable experiences for young people.
