Post Brendan Rodgers told reporters at his post-match press conference: “We’re really looking forward to the start of the season now. The players have worked really hard, they’re in really good shape and we’re itching to get going now.”
Post @LFC: PRE-SEASON IN NUMBERS: 7 games, 6 wins, 17 goals, 2 conceded, 9 different scorers #LFC
Post Head over to the homepage now for our match report and photos from the clash at the Aviva Stadium. We’ll have post-match reaction and highlights coming soon.
Post So the Reds’ pre-season preparations for the 2013-14 season conclude with a 1-0 defeat by Celtic, who claimed the Dublin Decider spoils thanks to a goal from Amido Balde.
92 Two corners in quick succession for LFC...
90 Four minutes of added time.
89 Ibe threatens the Celtic defence once more with superb technique in the dribble, but his blasted strike takes a nick and travels over the bar.
86 The 23-year-old then cracks a powerful effort from almost 30 yards which touches the side-netting – but the wrong side of the post from Liverpool’s point of view.
85 Great chance for Daniel Sturridge to level the scores but the striker’s subtle lob over the goalkeeper lands wide of the far post.
84 Substitution: Liam Henderson for Tony Watt:
84 Substitution: Paul George for Beram Kayal:
81 Jordon Ibe shows off his dribbling skills by gliding past two or three challenges but his inevitable strike is blocked away for a corner. Unlucky.
80 10 minutes left for the Reds to find an equaliser.
75 Jordan Henderson, operating from the left channel, is afforded time to aim at goal but his strike lacks power and is easily scooped up by Fraser Forster.
73 ...Simon Mignolet punches clear.
73 Quick cover defending by Johnson keeps Celtic at bay at the cost of a corner…
72 Substitution: Jordon Ibe for Stewart Downing:
68 Substitution: Bahrudin Atajic for Amido Balde:
68 Phenomenal combination play at pace by Coutinho and Sturridge releases the former to unleash an effort at the Celtic goal. Surprisingly for the Brazilian, it was off target.
67 @DominicKing_DM: There'd be worst bets this season than a wager on @Phil_Coutinho for Young Player of the Year. Stands out like a beacon in this @LFC side
65 Substitution: Stuart Findlay for Emilio Izaguirre:
65 …Kolo Toure was the man who leaped highest but could not connect enough to trouble the goalkeeper.
64 The Reds come forward again and Downing wins a corner…
61 A clever corner from Gerrard causes confusion in the Celtic box and Wisdom thrashes at a shot, but the defence eventually clears.
57 Substitution: Jordan Henderson for Joe Allen:
54 ...Toure heads the delivery into the net but he was offside.
53 Promising free-kick for Steven Gerrard on the left after another foul on Coutinho...
52 Stokes then forces Mignolet to make a straightforward stop.
51 End-to-end stuff now at the Aviva Stadium, where Coutinho was inches away from latching onto a cross with freedom in the Celtic area. Sturridge has raised Liverpool’s level here.
47 Strike in anger by Sturridge, who brought the ball under his control and immediately looked for a curler into the far corner. Wide.
46 Excellent defending by Toure at the back post, rising highest to stretch and nod a cross from the right clear, under pressure from Anthony Stokes.
46 Substitution: Daniel Fisher for Mikael Lustig:
46 Substitution: Daniel Sturridge for Iago Aspas:
46 Substitution: Fraser Forster for Lukasz Zaluska:
45 The teams are returning to the second half and Daniel Sturridge is among them...
45 So the Reds will now need at least two goals in the second half to complete their pre-season campaign with a 100 per cent record.
45 One minute added on.
43 First Booking: Anthony Stokes: For a dangerous tackle on Coutinho.
42 At the edge of the Celtic area, Downing tries to play in Gerrard but the move breaks down. Then Johnson trains his sights on goal but his left-footed drive, while losing his balance, is deflected high and wide.
40 ... cleared comfortably.
40 Another free-kick opportunity now for the Scots...
38 Danger in the Liverpool penalty box there after an inswinging set-piece by Emilio Izaguirre. The Reds required several attempts to clear, with Kolo Toure eventually completing the task.
36 Aspas breaks in behind the Celtic defence from an incisive Coutinho pass and smashes goalwards with his left foot. Zaluska saves and it was academic anyhow – the Spaniard was offside.
32 First sight of the Celtic goal for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, although it was from a pass at a very difficult height. The shot took a glance off his marker and was no issue for the ‘keeper.
26 A typically classy pass by Coutinho finds Allen and the midfielder instantly attempts to release Aspas but the through ball is too heavy.
22 @carlmarkham: #LFC had 70% possession in first 20 minutes. Really starting to dominate now.
20 Glen Johnson joins the attack down Liverpool’s right side and suddenly finds himself with space to pick out a shot. The defender’s low, precise attempt is cleared away by Zaluska.
17 @paul_tomkins: Liverpool had two good openings since going behind. Wisdom turned on their goal but he'll learn. Still raw, lots of potential
16 Downing lets fly with a superb drive after cutting in from the right wing and his effort looks to be heading in until Lukasz Zaluska springs to the side and palms the strike clear.
15 Stewart Downing and Coutinho come close to an instant response but Celtic hold firm.
12 Liverpool have fallen behind for the first time in this pre-season, as Balde collects a loose ball in the Reds’ half, bursts forward into space and slots into the net despite a heavy touch from Simon Mignolet.
12 GOAL! Amido Balde:
7 Nice build-up between Jose Enrique and Iago Aspas almost invents a chance for the onrushing Joe Allen, but the Welshman is forced slightly too wide.
5 Thrilling footwork by Philippe Coutinho there, who appeals for a foul – ignored by the referee.
2 Bright opening from the Scottish champions, who are pressing quickly when Liverpool have possession. They have just wasted a promising free-kick opportunity on the right side, though.
1 Early threat by Amido Balde, but the Reds clear the danger.
