Chelsea v Liverpool

Stamford Bridge
29 Dec 2013, KO: 16:00

Minute by minute

Post That's it from our live coverage from Stamford Bridge. We'll be back on New Year's Day live from Anfield when the Reds play host to Hull City. Thanks for following, YNWA
Post More from Rodgers: "We're disappointed with the result, but we have taken on two squads that are some of the strongest in Europe. For us, it demonstrates again the work we have to do. It's open. What I'm looking forward to is the second half of the season; we have to play every team except Manchester United at home. We have had all the tough games - Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle, Everton - we have had to play all of them away from home. Anfield is a tough place to come now, so we have got all of them to play at home in the second half. "It's still very much open. On Christmas Day, we were top of the league; a few days and games later, we're fifth. I think that's the way it will go between now and the end of the season."
Post Full injury story on the Liverpoolfc.com homepage now
Post "Sakho is his hamstring, so he will probably be a bit of time - we'll find out tomorrow. Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson probably played at 70 per cent, they were both injured. Joe had an injection to try to quash the pain in his abductor."
Post Rodgers has also offered an update on injured trio Jordan Henderson, Joe Allen and Mamadou Sakho
Post Brendan Rodgers: "I thought it was a great effort by my players. We've had two really tough fixtures and to get them back to back over this period was always going to be a big ask for us, especially due to injuries."

Pre "I was lucky enough to go on the pre-season tour and I loved it. I noticed from day one that the togetherness is there for all to see. I think you have to thank Brendan Rodgers for that and give him a lot of praise. We are all fighting for the same position and want the same thing. That is a massive thing. When you have got great individual players, every team wants them, needs them and deserves them. But when you have a team that plays as a team, that makes everything a little bit easier."
Pre Speaking of great goalscorers, Robbie Fowler has been explaining to Liverpoolfc.com why something he noticed while on the club's pre-season tour of Asia and Australia means he's not surprised by the Reds' excellent opening to 2013-14
Pre "I thought last season he and Gareth Bale were the two best players in the Premier League. You wondered whether that might be just a one-off for Suarez but he is even better now. He has taken his football to a different level."
Pre "Suarez is unbelievable. What I am saying now is he is the best player in the world. People talk about Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi but they are not playing regularly through injuries right now in Spain. Suarez is, and he is doing it in the hardest league in the world."
Pre On the subject of Suarez, LFC's all-time record goalscorer, Ian Rush, has some words of praise for him today...
Pre Roger Hunt managed an impressive 23 in 1961-62; however, his goals came in the old second division
Pre The Uruguayan requires one goal to become the first player to net 20 times in a top-flight campaign before the New Year since Jack Balmer did so in 1946-47
Pre Luis Suarez could end the year with yet another Liverpool record under his belt if he can find the back of the net today
Pre "We have a chance - if we play the way we did, we'll definitely have a chance to win the game. But every game is different and we just have to approach it with the same mentality, trying to play our football and not go there just to try to defend. We'll try to go and win the game and play the way we're good at. We'll see what's going to happen."
Pre Lucas also believes the Reds' performance at the Etihad against Manchester City in midweek should give them plenty of optimism heading to London...
Pre "I always give my best, it doesn't matter who I'm playing against. But, of course, I will be playing against some of the friends that I have made in my career."
Pre "Our experts here - the video analysis and the manager - know all the strengths and weaknesses of the players, not only the Brazilians but the whole team. Of course we can give them some advice, but I think they always give us more than we give to them. Then we have to be ready."
Pre Ahead of the game, Lucas Leiva spoke to Liverpoolfc.com about the trip to Stamford Bridge and the chance to meet up with some of his Brazilian compatriots...
Pre @NeilMellor33: Tough game for Liverpool with the home record Chelsea have under mourinho but the way Liverpool are playing I fancy at least a draw. #LFC
