West Bromwich Albion v Liverpool: Team news

Liverpool have been boosted by the availability of Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren for the Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

Gomez has not featured for his club since sustaining an ankle injury on international duty with England but returned to full training at Melwood this week.

Jürgen Klopp reported good news on Lovren ahead of the game, too. The centre-back was part of Thursday’s session after being forced off late on against AFC Bournemouth last weekend.

‘A little muscle issue’ is likely to preclude Nathaniel Clyne from the trip but the manager intends to select a strong line-up that is not influenced by the Champions League tie with AS Roma to follow.

“It will be difficult; we lost [against West Brom] in the FA Cup, I don’t have to remind anybody. That’s the situation and that’s what we respect first,” said Klopp at his pre-match press conference.

“And then, after the game, we think about Roma. There is no other way for us. We don’t have 25 players at the moment and can line up two different sides for one competition and the other competition. We need all the players.”

Emre Can and Adam Lallana remain sidelined.

West Brom are set to welcome back two first-team players for the fixture, Jonny Evans and Hal Robson-Kanu, after a knee injury and concussion respectively.

But Darren Moore, who is currently in charge of the 20th-placed Baggies, stopped short of confirming whether Nacer Chadli would be in contention to feature.

“He’s back with the squad, so he could be included at any time, but he’s just looking to continue building his fitness and getting stronger,” he said.

On-loan Daniel Sturridge is ineligible to play against Liverpool, of course.
