'Robbo's pressing showed how hard he is working'

It was a moment Anfield adored – and one that simply showed how hard Andy Robertson is working to maintain his spot in the Liverpool team.

As the Reds produced a surge that Manchester City could not cope with last Sunday, transforming a 1-1 scoreline into a 4-1 advantage, the Scot was by no means a peripheral figure at left-back.

His gusto in the challenge and energy on the ball were a constant throughout the Premier League contest, and never more so than when he set off on a press which covered the length and width of the opposition half in the second period.

The result in the game was a somewhat harsh foul given against Robertson on Nicolas Otamendi. The Kop did not care, though, chanting the defender’s name in deserved recognition of his efforts.

And the sentiment on the stands is shared in the dressing room.

“For him, it wasn’t easy at the start, Alberto [Moreno] did very well. Then he got injured and since then [Robertson] has been doing really well,” Loris Karius told Liverpoolfc.com.

“He came in and adapted straight away and has been great so far. He is a young lad with loads of potential but has already proven himself.

“That moment just showed how hard he is working and how well he fits into our side. It was great to see. Watching it in goal, it was great.”
