'A good day' - Coutinho on his Champions League hat-trick

Philippe Coutinho described a memorable Champions League outing as 'a good day' after bagging a hat-trick in Liverpool's 7-0 rout of Spartak Moscow.

The No.10 was in clinical form once again in the final encounter of Group E, calmly converting an early penalty before finishing off an incisive team move to double the lead.

His treble was sealed with the help of a deflection in the second half on a night when the Reds emphatically ensured top spot in the section and a place in Monday’s last-16 draw.

“It’s my first [hat-trick] in the Champions League! I scored one hat-trick with Brazil but this was important as well,” Coutinho, who captained Liverpool, told Viasport after the game.

“It was a really good night. Like always when we play at Anfield, the atmosphere was amazing. I always said the fans here are unbelievable. Today was a good day.”

The Brazilian played from the left hand side as Jürgen Klopp sent out a devastating attacking line-up featuring Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah too.

All four forwards were on the scoresheet and Coutinho does not care where he is deployed on the pitch when he can be part of such a scintillating combination.

“I enjoy playing – the left side or the right side doesn’t matter. I had to do what [the manager] asked in the position. Everyone did well,” he added.

“It was a good game, the team played very well and we deserved the result. We’re in the next round.”
